STSM Relocates to Permanent Home One Year After Fire

COLUMBIA, SC – One year after fire displaced the organization, Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) moves to a permanent office space.

The new office, located at 3830 Forest Drive in Suite 201, is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. STSM provides crisis intervention, personal and legal advocacy and counseling to survivors as well as prevention education to local middle and high school students. The office number is 803-790-8208. The 24-hour hotline is 803-771-7273. All services are free and confidential.

The fire took place at 3700 Landmark Drive on September 26, 2012. Because of community support from organizations like Palmetto Health, the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and IT-ology, STSM’s 24-hour crisis services never stopped. Since the fire STSM has provided hospital accompaniment for 338 primary survivors of sexual assault.

“We are so grateful for the wonderful support we’ve had during this transitional year, and we are beyond ready to move to our permanent home,” says Executive Director Ginny Waller. Waller adds, “It’s exciting to celebrate 30 years of service by moving into a new space to offer hope and healing for survivors of sexual assault in the Midlands. In many ways we are experiencing the fresh start that we offer to survivors in our community.”

Over the years STSM offices have experienced a myriad of catastrophes from fire to flood, but services for survivors of sexual assault have continued uninterrupted.
