Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands Announces Resignation of Executive Director Ginny Waller

COLUMBIA, SC—Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands announces that Executive Director Ginny Waller will be leaving the agency in February of 2016.

President of the Board of Directors, Kristian Bell, says, “Though she will be missed greatly, we are all excited about Ginny’s opportunity to move to Germany with her family. Her leadership has grown Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands from a team of eight staff and a budget of less than $500,000 to a staff of 23 employees and a budget of more than $1.8 million. STSM has built a holistic program of best-practice, trauma-focused care for survivors of sexual assault and their families. Our education programs not only teach young people to prevent sexual violence, but also train community members from all walks of life to take an active role in addressing violence in our community. These programs are nationally recognized and their growth continues to attract the highest quality of staff and leadership. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate the incredible success we have achieved under Ginny’s leadership as we begin the search process for a new Executive Director who will exemplify her passion and commitment to ending sexual violence.”

Ginny Waller has served as the Executive Director of Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands since 2008. She has been recognized for her leadership and passion for ending sexual violence by the SC Association of Nonprofit Executives, the SC Victim Assistance Network, The State Newspaper, and many other organizations. During a time when many nonprofits closed their doors, Ginny’s leadership and vision led STSM to great success and growth.

Ginny Waller says, “I’m so proud of what our team at Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands has achieved in the past eight years, and I know we are on the path for continued growth and success. It’s hard to leave the best job in the world, but I’m looking forward to exploring Europe with my family and continuing my work to end sexual violence in a different capacity.”

Mary Dell Hayes, Director of Development, will serve as the Interim Executive Director. Mary Dell has been with STSM for six years and previously served as the Volunteer Services Coordinator. Sherry Lewis, MA, LPCS and Melanie Snipes, LMSW will continue their respective roles as Director of Therapy and Outreach and Director of Crisis Services overseeing all trauma-focused services offered for survivors of sexual violence. Community Education Director, Kayce Singletary, MSW, MPH, CHES will continue to oversee violence prevention education programs. The leadership team has a combined 30 years of service with Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. “Our strong leadership team will push the agency to continue to succeed and grow as we enter this period of transition,” says Board President Kristian Bell.

The Board of Directors posted the Executive Director Leadership Profile at www.stsm.org/employment and invites highly qualified applicants who believe in STSM’s vision of healthy survivors thriving in a community free from sexual violence to submit their qualifications.
