We're in the business of hope and healing

Many survivors of sexual abuse or assault struggle with distorted beliefs or interpretations about themselves ("It's my fault this happened") or about the world ("Nobody can be trusted"). It can feel like a very scary world to live in!

The clinicians at Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands use the evidence-based practice method called Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to serve survivors of childhood or adult sexual assault or abuse in individual and group therapy.

CPT promotes recovery from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by directly modifying those maladaptive thoughts and beliefs that develop after a traumatic incident. A recent study found that CPT is a more effective method of therapy compared to Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), especially at decreasing hopelessness and PTSD symptoms. If you are interested or know someone who might benefit from CPT or individual/group therapy at STSM, please contact our clinicians at (803) 790-8208 to get involved in our free and confidential services.
