Volunteer with STSM

Have you heard about STSM’s volunteers?  Our volunteers respond to survivors at the hospital, educate the community about sexual violence, research cool projects, and do just about anything you can imagine that a rape crisis agency might need.  We would not be able to serve nearly as many survivors without the contributions of our dedicated volunteers.

Why should you join our awesome volunteer team?

-          Our volunteers have been recognized statewide as award winners!  People recognize the impact our volunteers have on this community and want to honor that work.  We’ve won the SC Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Volunteer of the Year Award (2009), United Way of the Midlands Community Impact Volunteer of the Year Award (2008 and 2012), SC Victim Assistance Network Volunteer of the Year and Humanitarian Volunteer Awards (2010, 2011), and the SC Governor’s Legacy Volunteer Award (2012).

-          We offer nontraditional volunteer opportunities at nontraditional hours.  We have weekday, weeknight, and weekend opportunities.

-          Volunteering looks great on your resume and is an opportunity to expand your skills!  Many of our volunteers will volunteer to test out a new career path or to prepare to go back to school.  Some of our volunteers want an experience that is different from their day job.

-          It’s important to tell the world that you do not condone sexual violence.  Someone in the United States is sexually assaulted every two minutes.  Getting involved with STSM is a way to be part of the team trying to end sexual violence in our community.

We offer training for volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  Our advocate training takes place in February, May, and October.  Our Speakers Bureau training is in August.  We accept office volunteers throughout the year.  Take a stand against sexual violence and get involved!  Our volunteer application is available here: http://www.stsm.org/volunteer/advocate
