News From STSM

Dear friends:

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation from Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands, effective February 5, 2016. My family and I have been offered a life changing opportunity to move to Germany with my husband's military career, and we have accepted the adventure.

As you can imagine, this has been a difficult decision for me. I love this job, this staff, and STSM beyond words. Serving as Executive Director of STSM was an answer to many prayers on both a personal and professional level. I will be forever grateful for the gift of serving this organization and working with the inspiring staff, board, volunteers, donors, and community partners of STSM.

STSM is bigger and better than ever. We are in a secure financial position with more than six months of operating expenses in accessible investment accounts. We have a true governance board who has accepted the challenge of leading one of the fastest growing nonprofits in the state. And, from my perspective, the greatest asset of this organization lies with the leadership and expertise of a highly skilled staff, many of whom have been with the organization for as long as I have.

The Board has named Mary Dell Hayes, current Director of Development and longtime STSM employee, as Interim Director beginning in February. She will oversee the maintenance of the high quality direct services and education that the community has come to expect of STSM, while the Board of Directors searches for the next Executive Director. The Board of Directors has also asked that I stay on in a consultant capacity to support the transition for as long as the Board and then the new Executive Director see fit.

I could not believe more firmly in the mission of this organization or the people leading it. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for this outstanding organization that brings hope and healing to so many people and will someday end sexual violence.

Thank you for an amazing seven years. Für jetzt auf Wiedersehen!

P.S. Rumor has it that there will be a Goodbye Party in my honor on the evening of January 21. Please save the date!

Ginny Waller, Executive Director

We hope you enjoy this monthly feature from our Executive Director, Ginny Waller. Ginny will focus each month on a component of how nonprofit best practices really play out in STSM's strategic work to serve survivors of sexual violence and to educate our community to identify and prevent sexual violence. As always, let us know what you think!
