Later Life Advocate

Job Title: Abuse in Later Life Advocate (30 hours/week, Oct.1, 2014-Sept. 30, 2015) 

Salary: $25,000 

Reports To: Director, Council on Aging, Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice or related field 

with at least one year’s experience as a victim service provider. Computer skills required.

General Summary of Duties: 

To promote the Abuse in Later Life Program and provide high quality services, referrals, and support to victims of elder abuse. 

Job Expectations: 

·         Provide follow up referrals for services and resources to victims of elder abuse;

·         Perform safety planning and crisis intervention with older victims who are in crisis;

·         Serve as a primary point of contact for elder victims of abuse and coordinate services with providers, transportation, housing, and other needs;

·         Act as a legal, personal, and medical advocate for victims of elder abuse;

·         Co-facilitate peer support group for elder victims of abuse and create manual for best practice operations of group;

·         Create policies and procedures for implementation and sustainment of abuse in later life projects;

·         Conduct outreach and education to seniors and providers in Lexington County and surrounding areas;

·         Attend all meetings of the Abuse in Later Life Community Collaborative Response Team;

·         Assist in the development of an outreach plan to market the Abuse in Later Life Program to victims and service providers; 

·         Attend local Law Enforcement and Direct Service Provider elder abuse trainings; 

·         Explore sustainability options beyond grant term; and

·         Perform other duties as prescribed by the grantor.
