I'm Not Buying It!

Did you know that sex trafficking increases around the Super Bowl?  The Florida Commission Against Human Trafficking estimates that tens of thousands of women and children were victims of sex trafficking in Miami in the days surrounding the 2010 Super Bowl.  This year the Texas Attorney General has put together a team of local and state law enforcement officers as well as the FBI to fight sex trafficking.  The I'm Not Buying It Campaign provides free resources to help educate communities about the impact of sex trafficking.  They have teamed up with professional athletes and celebrities to

This poem is by Volunteer Alexis Stratton.  Alexis Stratton has been a volunteer for STSM since fall 2009, working for the Speaker's Bureau and assisting in Development/Grant-Writing.  She is a native of Illinois but has spent her life in many homes, from the Carolinas to South Korea.  Currently, she is studying for her MFA in Creative Writing at USC.

Richland County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) signs New Cooperative Work Agreement

COLUMBIA, SC - April 25, 2010 - April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and today community organizations that are part of the Richland County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) announced a new cooperative working agreement to facilitate more comprehensive care to sexual assault victims. The new agreement reinforces the team’s commitment to provide a safe and comfortable environment for victims. Through collaboration with new partners, the agreement also helps hold sex offenders and domestic violence offenders more accountable.
