Volunteer of the Quarter Hazel Jackson Hazel Jackson has volunteered as an advocate with STSM since February of 2010. Since Hazel completed training she has signed up for at least three shifts per month. In her spare time Hazel is active in her church and enjoys singing in the choir. Hazel had previously volunteered at STSM and took a break before rejoining as an advocate. She is an excellent listener and is skilled at communicating with survivors in crisis. “Hazel is a wonderful advocate. She is very reliable and always brings her paperwork in on time. Her quiet presence is very comforting, but she isn’t afraid to speak up when the survivor needs something! The staff at STSM are very thankful for Hazel’s continued dedication to serving survivors of sexual violence.” - Mary Dell Hayes, Volunteer Services Coordinator

Consent is Sexy MYTH: If the assailant, victim, or both are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the victim can consent to sex and the assailant cannot be charged with rape.
U-Need-to-Know Radio Show
FACT: When intoxicated, an individual cannot legally consent to sexual activity. Rape is a serious offense, and people who commit crimes under the influence of drugs or alcohol are not considered free from guilt. Consensual sex happens when each partner willingly chooses to participate enthusiastically, and the only way to get consent is to communicate your expectations and desires with your partner.
Before you act, ASK first.
