Walk a Mile In Her Shoes®

Men from across the Midlands will be standing up against sexual abuse and violence, one pair of heels at a time, on April 12. Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands’ Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® begins at 6 p.m. outside the Columbia Convention Center in the Vista. This year USC's Cocky will be walking with us and the Benedict College's Drum Line will be leading the procession! There will be face painting done by a professional clown, an animal balloon twister and a juggler on site! Bring the whole family for this fun filled event!

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men literally to walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes to rally the community to fight against sexual violence. The goal is to help men understand and appreciate women’s experiences and realize that this is not only a women’s issue.

Studs in stilettos won’t be the only people taking part in this walk; Men, women and children of all ages are encouraged to participate individually or in teams. Men need to come prepared with women’s footwear, but women are free to walk in their choice of shoes. Want to get creative with your shoes but not sure how? Sponsored by Palmetto Health and hosted by Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM), the event not only gets men involved in the fight against sexual violence, it also raises awareness about free local services provided for survivors of sexual assault.

You may pre-register online for the event for $15 (which includes a t-shirt and goody bag) until March 25, 2012. After March 25, 2012 registration will increase to $20. An after party will be held after the event at the Tin Roof. There will be a goodie-bag pick up on April 11 at the Tin Roof from 3:30pm- 6:30pm for those that register in advance. Day of registration will be available, but we strongly encourage participants to register in advance. Registration will be available from 4:30-5:30pm ONLY on site, and the price will be $25. T-shirt cannot be guaranteed day of.

Our walk route is flat and smooth (except for the first block of cobblestones which is just a little uneven) and is accessible to all!
