Meet Megan Monts—Abuse In Later Life Program Coordinator
Megan was born and raised in Prosperity, South Carolina. Megan received her BA in 2009 from the University of South Carolina. Her oldest daughter, Fiona, was born on her graduation day so you can guess that she did not get to walk! Megan completed advocate training in February of 2010. Megan has had several diverse jobs including demographic research and a stint in a biofuel nonprofit. Megan in in the MSW program at USC and will graduate some time in 2014. She is a macro track Social Work student, which means that her educational and career goals are positioning her to work with organizations and communities. This ties in REALLY well with the Abuse in Later Life (ALL) Program! Megan ‘s husband, Heath, is a professor at Central Carolina Technical College and her second daughter, Zellie, was born in January. Here are some things you might not know about Megan: Why did you want to work at STSM? I am very passionate about ending sexual violence. Until that happens, I will have to be content addressing the issue in my current role. Volunteering here was a fantastic and life-changing experience; it led me to my current educational track and career path. Working here among these talented and dedicated individuals is quite an honor, and I am really looking forward to being a part of this team. What are your hobbies? There are quite a few! I love most arts and crafts; my favorites are sewing and jewelry making. Vegetable gardening is a lot of fun, and I really like refinishing old and battered furniture into cute and quirky shabby chic pieces to suit my lifestyle. Tell us three random things about yourself that people wouldn't know just by looking at you. 1. I am extremely eclectic. 2. I am addicted to horror movies and Stephen King novels. 3. I love old things, like antique furniture, vintage ephemera, and grandmothers. I am blessed with two wonderful ones (who probably shouldn't know that I consider them old).
Meet Elizabeth Wolfe—Development Coordinator
What is your background? I was born and raised in Columbia, went to Massachusetts for college, worked in Moscow and Washington, DC, and recently moved back home. I was a journalist at a newspaper in Moscow and The Associated Press in Washington. I studied international relations and economics then hopped into politics as the last presidential campaign season got underway. Since 2007 I have also helped with fundraising and communications for school and water projects in Haiti’s Central Plateau region. Why did you want to work at STSM? Being from Columbia and with most of my family here, I wanted to work for an organization that is vital to making our diverse community a better place to live. I have also witnessed the aftereffects of sexual trauma and grew to understand the myriad resources needed for people to recover. I believe the possibility for recovery is absolute, and the benefits of a survivor thriving again are endless. What do you want to accomplish at STSM? I want to make sexual violence an issue that people feel more comfortable discussing – and combating. I want people to know what our agency does, whom we serve, and how everyone in the Midlands benefits from our work. As Development Coordinator, I want to increase individual giving so STSM is less dependent on government grants. What are your hobbies? I need a new hobby and am open to suggestions. Just nothing involving sewing, knitting or crafts, because I stink at all that. Currently, I enjoy hanging out with my three nephews, rediscovering my hometown, jogging reasonable distances, and reading the news, biographies and historical fiction that cover topics about which I know next to nothing. Tell us three random things about yourself that people wouldn’t know just by looking at you. I still don’t know how I feel about the Oxford comma; I played centerfield for my college softball team; and I planned on moving back to South Carolina when I was about 75.

TIPS and UPDATES

DHEC requires that you turn in your ARF or call the information in and mail the original within 24 hours of the call. There are no exceptions to this rule.

It will be much easier on you if you schedule some down time for yourself following an on call shift. This way if you have a long hospital call then you will have time to rest. Or if you do not have a call you have time to do a random act of kindness for yourself!

STSM would love to come to your church or civic organization’s next health fair! We are also happy to schedule presentations for these groups. Please let us know how we can help you share your work with the community!
