Job Title: Bilingual Victim Advocate
Bachelors degree in social work, counseling or related field with at least one year’s experience working in an area related to sexual abuse/assault. Must be fluent in Spanish and English. [Employment is contingent upon passing the Language Proficiency Test.] Strong organizational skills, punctuality, cultural competency, professionalism, written and oral communication skills, and computer skills required.
Reports To: Director of Crisis Services
Salary Range: $28,000-$30,000 (plus health and life with 401(k) after year one with 3% match)
General Summary of Duties:
To enhance and expand comprehensive services for survivors of sexual assault, with emphasis on underserved communities, to include crisis intervention, information and referral, advocacy within the criminal justice systems, and outreach.
Provides crisis intervention to victims of sexual assault and abuse through the crisis line and hospital accompaniment, participating in agency on-call rotation;
Assists the Crisis Program with follow up, personal and legal advocacy, and crisis intervention for victims,
Provides outreach and information to underserved communities, including individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ, Latinos/as, and the elderly, about sexual assault and abuse and the services available at STSM;
Represents STSM with numerous organizations serving sexual assault survivors and/or underserved communities;
Provides interpretation for Hispanics/Latinos during individual counseling sessions with licensed therapists;
Creates and implements trainings for social workers, advocates, medical personnel, and law enforcement to provide them an approach that is sensitive to the cultural characteristics of underserved communities;
Creates and implements training for STSM staff on how to best serve underserved populations;
Prepares monthly reports, quarterly reports, and annual progress reports for funding grant; and
Ensures grant objectives are met and documented.
