Individual and Group Counseling Crisis Counseling focuses more on “here and now” issues and coping with daily life after a traumatic event. This is often the treatment of choice for survivors of recent assaults. Therapy helps get deeper into the causes of our current problems by examining our past as well as our present. This form of therapy is used when a survivor of sexual abuse appears to be ready to deal with the possible number of complex/painful issues they may need to face. STS offers both services and many times our clients engage in both types of therapy during the course of their work with a counselor. Family therapy and/or couples therapy is often used to help secondary survivors cope and learn new and often times more effective ways to communicate and deal with feelings that may be uncomfortable or difficult to understand. This form of therapy may also help with parenting issue’s, boundaries, education and support.
